The Department of the Environment designs and implements the Australian Government’s policies and programmes to protect and conserve the environment, water and heritage and promote climate action. The environmental framework is being delivered under four pillars:
- Clean Water
- Clean Air
- Clean Land
- National heritage
The Department funds the National Environmental Science Programme. This programme will assist decision makers to understand, manage and conserve Australia's environment by funding $142.5 million of world-class biodiversity and climate science.
