This dataset contains temperature, salinity and pressure data for all profiles of the Argo Australia float 5900867.
Argo Australia aims to undertake real time monitoring of the broad ocean state around Australia by maintaining an array of profiling (Argo) floats that measure temperature and salinity down to 2000 m every 10 days in real time.
Argo is a major international collaborative project to observe the world's oceans and help scientists understand ocean processes and the ocean's roles in climate. The data collected also improves our ability to forecast climate and ocean conditions.
The float drift at depth of between 1 and 2 km. Every ten days each float ascends to the surface, measuring temperature and salinity as it rises. This data is transmitted to satellites along with the float's position. The float then dives and starts a new cycle.
