Brief description The project explores perceptions of vegetation management regimes in peri-urban areas of the Mediterranean biome facing high bushfire risk. The aim is to determine stakeholders’ understanding of vegetation risks and values, and use that information to develop a policy response framework to simultaneously retain environmental values whilst mitigating fire risk. Findings will assist policymakers to better manage public responses to fire risk and conservation issues, and will guide the development of education programs to enhance public awareness of bushfire risk, conservation, and the role of fire in maintaining biodiversity. The project employs a socio-ecological approach using postal questionnaires, interviews and focus group consultation.
