Brief description This project aims to develop an intelligent safety warning system to prevent mobile industrial platforms from striking pedestrians and other objects. A structured light scanner will be used as the sensory means to obtain rapid proximity data. We plan to: • Statistically model the uncertainties associated with the structured light scanner. • Segment and classify objects through the development of pattern recognition algorithms. • Develop a multi-object filter for tracking and situational awareness. • Integrate developments into a collision avoidance system. The research significance of this project will be that artificial vision systems will be enhanced to a point approaching 3D real time motion tracking (position and velocity) capabilities.
