Brief description Reducing the settlement of soft soil foundations and ensuring sufficient bearing capacity are essential for sustainable transport infrastructure. In this project, the performance of stone columns under static and cyclic loading will be studied capturing the shear strength and stiffness properties of the reinforced soil and the associated movements. Novel analytical formulations with complementary numerical modelling will be executed to simulate the complex in-situ soil-structure interaction, while laboratory testing will facilitate model calibration and validation. Also supported by field trials, the outcomes will offer improved engineering solutions and design guides, extending the current state-of-the-art in stone column applications.
