Brief description Current fingermark detection methods suffer from two major limitations: (1) they only target fingermark components under specific conditions (e.g. sebaceous compounds on non-porous surfaces); and (2) they are largely ineffective on some surfaces (e.g. human skin). This project will address these issues through the development and validation of highly sensitive, luminescent nanoparticle-based immunogenic reagents for the detection of compounds naturally present in all latent fingermarks. Moving away from traditional detection methods will deliver transformational outcomes for law enforcement as detection limits will be significantly improved and fingermarks that remain undetected with current techniques will be visualised for the first time.
