Brief description

This data collection contains UV radiation samples collected in Toowoomba from 2002.  By taking spectral scans every five minutes from 5am to 7pm daily, these data aim to improve our understanding of ultraviolet radiation, taking into account time of year, time of day, cloud coverage, dust coverage and other factors.  A Total Sky Image has been taken every minute from sunrise to sunset from 2005 onwards to supplement the UV radiation data.

Complementary teaching materials are provided, including downloadable student worksheets, and online animations for both students and the general public.

Notes

Access to this data is at http://q0076.qcloud.qcif.edu.au, and requires a user name Q0076-RO and password w1xG4cmV. The available files include an Activity document for students to plot UV ratings, a MyUVindex spreadsheet for students to calculate UVA and UVB wavelengths, and estimate their own burn time, a folder (Ben) containing .dat files by year, a folder (Bentham) containing summer and winter solice data, a folder (Biometer) containing data taken every 5 minutes in November 2014, and a pdf file (Downs_PD) of a presentation on practical mathematics and solar radiation science for school students.
